Hump Day it is. Hoping you are having a good week.
Got a bit of an idea for Theology on Tap for this Friday, but with only 48-hours until we get together, we thought I'd better send this out as quickly as possible. This idea has been tossed around this week, and in order to inject a bit of intention into our times together, here's a plan for your consideration:
Listen to this audio-version of Pastor Mark Driscoll from Advance 09: http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/advance-09/what-is-the-church On the occasions we've tried to either view a full-length video or listen to a full-length sermon, it becomes cumbersome and unconducive to to good dialogue. Therefore, we suggest you follow the link above and listen to the sermon entitled, "What is the Church?" on your own time between now and Friday afternoon. The sermon is classic-Driscoll: about an hour in length. So you'll want to perhaps break it up into a couple of sittings, if you are tight on free-time.
Formulate a list of important points and/or a list of questions for discussion. If something strikes you as significant, you're probably not the only one. We can discuss ideas and address questions from the teaching. Perhaps one of the most significant topics guys have discussed at TOT over its history is a biblical approach to church and its implications for our walk with each other and with Christ.
Forward this email to friends. We surely all have someone we'd like to experience TOT. It's not for every man, but we all have that "one guy" who likes beer and cigars, but is disconnected from either church or a good group of guys, or both. This Friday would quite possibly be the catalyst to connect them to what we do. Remember back to before you had a tight group of friends with whom to share life? With more intentionality at TOT, think of the opportunities to help a friend!
We'll meet again at Brad Bigelow's house this Friday, from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. Brad's house is at 107 Crab Orchard St. in Somerset. As always, we have a three drink-rule at TOT. And bring a great cigar.
For many of us, TOT is just a great place to breathe deeply and relax, and we still intend to enjoy that each week. But imagine what can happen if we add the single component of great teaching and subsequent meaningful dialogue? That can and will result in better Jesus followers, husbands, fathers, employees/employers, missionaries to culture and friends.
